Pest control in the GTA and Peel

We know local properties

Across Peel and the GTA, older neighbourhoods, newer subdivisions, townhomes and mixed-use buildings create different pest pressures from one property to the next.

Established neighbourhoods across Peel and the GTA can have settled foundations, unscreened brick weep holes, aging garage door seals and mature trees near the roofline. These houses can get mice, they can get carpenter ants wherever there has been a roof or gutter leak, and they can get wasps in the soffits.

Newer subdivisions and townhomes often have tight lot lines and attached housing. Recurring issues include unsealed utility penetrations, garage gaps and shared walls that can let problems move from one unit to the next.

Homes near ravines and green space can face seasonal pest pressure along corridors such as Etobicoke Creek. Cluster flies, spiders, wasps and rodents can move toward buildings as temperatures cool.

Mixed-use streets and older apartment buildings often have shared walls and restaurants below homes. These settings can create conditions for German cockroach and rodent activity.

The local pest calendar

• Spring. Ants indoors, wasp queens founding nests, overwintered mice getting active, carpenter ant swarmers.
• Summer. Wasp and hornet nests at full size, spiders, fleas, and cockroach numbers climbing in the heat.
• Autumn. Mice, cluster flies, spiders and boxelder bugs move toward buildings as temperatures fall. Ask about exclusion work early in the season.
• Winter. Rodents in walls and attics, pantry pests, and bed bugs, which run all year.
